My first op-ed...it's online now (link below) and in Metro News across Canada tomorrow (Thursday). It's World Down Syndrome Day on Saturday, celebrate that extra chromosome. xx Link
I fear for my son's future when I hear those in power describe people on social assistance in BC as "lucky". It makes me sad.
I was just told that the Ministry of Education needs me to provide a letter signed by my doctor confirming Beckett has Down syndrome. I'm pretty sure when we registered him for Kindergarten 4 years ago we had official medical forms signed? Anyway, I was told that if I didn't have the letter by Monday, Beckett could be taken off the list. What list? That he doesn't have special needs? Or need assistance? Why does having a child with a disability have to be so full of paperwork and constant advocating? Don't we have enough on our plates?
