After a crazy week dealing with Erika coverage and canceling my daughter's birthday party because of it, I walked into my #DelrayBeach Publix to get her a standard cake and Delwanda Brown - who had already made 15 cakes that day - insisted on making Laine a special cake from scratch. She had it done in a few hours - just in time for our makeup bday party. This is why I love my Publix. It's all about the people. Thank you, Delwanda!!! You are the best!
UPDATE ON LITTLE BOY SLEEPING AT HIS BUS STOP: Police went by there yesterday and talked to the little boy who is 6 years old along with his 12-year-old cousin. His mother has to leave early in order to get to work. The cousin waits with the 6-year-old until her bus comes and then then he is by himself for 15 - 20 minutes and sometimes falls asleep on the ground. His mother had no idea he was sleeping like that. Police told the cousin to make sure the 6-year-old gets across the street safely before she leaves. They also contacted the mother who was very appreciative for the concern. She says she just moved here. She is checking with the school to see if they have early care. Now, I would like to take a moment and address the people who say I only did this for ratings on TV. You could not be more WRONG! My 3pm producer and I - who are both working moms - decided to start a conversation about this because we think it's something we SHOULD be talking about. How many people drove by this little boy and did nothing? Yet so many want to criticize the woman who took the picture and asked for advice. I'm not identifying the boy, his family, his street corner or even his city. I didn't send a reporter out there to do a story. I posted a picture to start a conversation so maybe the next time you see something that just doesn't look right - you won't turn a blind eye. You instead will do something. Anything.
Someone asked me recently why I've stayed at CBS 12 News for almost 18 years and my answer is always I love my job and they treat me well. They give me the time I need to spend away from work so I can be a better employee. I've been away for the last two weeks - hanging with my children - heading home to see my parents - and traveling with a friend to a city I'd never seen before - Austin. It was relaxing, it was fun, it was exactly what I needed. Ready for my 2am wake-up call. See you in the morning!
My life changed this weekend. I rescued this sweet girl, Sophia. She's part chihuahua and part either Italian greyhound or whippet. Thank you TriCounty Humane in Boca for helping us find the perfect pet for our family! #AdoptDontShop
Chris Farrell - not just a weather guru. He also spent 3 years in the US Army! #ThankAVeteran #VeteransDay
I'm hosting the Delray Beach Fashion Week kickoff and one of my favorite shops - Periwinkle is dressing me. Which should I chose? Link
