I'm posting this because it is one of the most touching fan emails I've ever received. I was deeply moved, almost to tears, when I read it. It is the kind of story that reminds us all that no matter what terrible things happen in the world, we must never forget that there are truly good and lovely people, such as the lady who wrote wrote this to me today: "Hi Peter – a little story. I was in Lewes library this morning and an elderly gentleman approached the next desk and said – I haven’t heard from you but I wondered what was happening about the Peter James I ordered, the new one. The librarian took his name and then said....Oh, you are going up the list, you are number 89 now. 89? the man said..how long will that take? Depends how quickly people read, he was told, all our libraries have lists for Peter James. The man turned away dejectedly and I said to him – do you live in Lewes because I have a copy of the Peter James book that you can have, I’m in Lewes again tomorrow and I can pop it through your letterbox. ( I honestly didn’t think he might live another 89 weeks). He burst into tears and gave me his address and I will deliver it tomorrow. So...a win/win situation...and I did my random act of kindness."
