(Here's a live version of Measure 3 from my living room. And if you're asking, the answer is yes, I still strongly choose to rock.) I wrote The Green Fury as a eulogy to a friend of mine from high school. He was younger and maybe even more awkward than me. But he was a force of nature unto himself, rarely shutting up or stopping to think about anything within his path. A pure, unbroken beast. I’d never put my un-patterned thoughts so directly inside anything I’d written or sung. Because that’s the only way to summon pure, unbroken beasts. (We've released The Green Fury with annotations and extra videos on Patreon, if you're interested. https://www.patreon.com/thelowlifes?ty=h) Up until now, I’ve distanced myself from some of the music I’ve made. There’s no end to the critics and the second-guesses flashing up on the teletype in the Times Square of my mind. But I’ve decided it’s time to stop trying to escape my body and my brains. (I mean, really, it’s not so bad in here. It’s heated and I get to drink as much coffee as I want.) I also get to speak and be spoken to. By you. Thanks for listening to my baloney. m.
Today is the beginning. We’re fully stoked to be streaming the second track from our upcoming album on Brooklyn Vegan today. It’s called The Glow. It’s about all these feral families that we’ve all sprung from, the righteous mothers that gave us all our lives! Winter Lives will be out on eleven eleven and we are truly proud to be offering it to you today for pre-order here! It’s one of a thousand beginnings that dot the rolling landscape of an asymmetrical life. But nonetheless, a fervent, wholehearted beginning. A moment where everything prior and everything in the future zooms out-of-focus. So that we’re exactly where we are. Thank you for being a part of it all. Thank you for your support. Mostly, thank you for listening. Yes and yes! m. & c. Link
Please, please, please let me get what I want this time. #2014
The first single from our next album, Still Summer, is premiering on NPR Music today! Which makes this the official announcement of our next album. And with that, we’re launching a pre-order! Please feel free to go nuts. http://mattpondpa.com/preorder-still-summer/ The cover was shot by the amazing Amy Toensing, the layout and design by the incredible Jenna Casey. The release date is August 11! Yes! Everything created for this album goes way beyond me. Still Summer was built with the extraordinary talent and devotion of the best people I know — I’m both awed and honored. And there is you. Fine human beings with brilliantly strange minds. We share similar sunset visions of hope and understanding, all within a modestly monumental summer moment. Without you, I’m just making vinyl frisbees to throw at the setting sun. 180-gram, 12-inch discs taking flight from the highest point of my roof. Dancing alone with a silent radio while the day turns dark. Thank you for listening. That’s everything. Yes! m. Link
