When they asked what my vision for @run.dem.crew was I said 'To get a million people moving' . The silence that followed was painful but the laughter that came made me smile because when you grow up with adversity you are used to fighting through the laughter and proving experts wrong. From the moment I arrived in Greenwhich the love and support from people was immense and continued right the way through the day all around the course and it was beautiful to see so many people openly sharing their stories and their reactions to the show. I'm really proud of what we've achieved with #mindovermarathon but I'm even prouder of the ten runners who undertook this adventure. Thank you for allowing me to join you on this journey. Yesterday was a big day for @run.dem.crew and in a year when we celebrate our 10th birthday I'm happy that the crew is in a place where we can be involved in moments like this photo. Rolling deep with friends in very high places and spreading the powers of #crewlove and our beautiful #bridgethegap movement. I will always stand by the theory that we are destined for great things , that our movement is so much more than medals, races and parties. That we have the ability to really influence mainstream culture and bring real change to the world and if we all do our little bit then one day every day will feel like marathon day. Shouts to the Royals @kensingtonroyal the @bbc #mindovermarathon crew and @heads_together people dem for being awesome. The mighty people of @run.dem.crew and of course my brother in arms @chasing19. London Marathon 2017. What a day to be alive. #rundemcrew #rundem #mentalhealth #manlikepace #pacefoundation #rippace #mindovermarathon #bbc #manlikepace #rippace #headstogether #londonmarathon2017 #londonmarathon #smsb #soundmindsoundbody #katemiddleton #princewilliam #princeharry #dukeofcambridge

It's never been about free kicks, brand association or self elevation. It's always been about helping people and sharing the ideals of a simple pastime that saved my own life in my darkest hours. Taking that @run.dem.message to the people dem in a prime time BBC TV way. One in four people in the UK experience a mental health problem, yet we rarely talk openly or candidly about it. For those who have these difficulties, this stigma only exacerbates their situation, making it harder to recover. In this new two-part series, a group of 10 unlikely runners living with or affected by different mental health issues train for the ultimate test of mind over matter, competing in one of the world's most famous endurance races - this year’s London Marathon. Mental and physical health is closely linked, and taking up sport or exercise can benefit our psychological wellbeing - but this is no easy ride. Presenter Nick Knowles is on a personal mission to get our runners across the finishing line and leads a team of running experts, nutritionists and psychiatrists. In this episode the group come from all over the country to meet for the first time at a training camp. Each of the different runners face different challenges, with different personal journeys. Among the ten runners is Rhian, a mum of three who lost her one year-old son to pneumonia and five days later tragically lost her husband as well. She struggles with PTSD and anxiety and initially can't run on her own. Shereece had postpartum depression after the birth of her first child. She struggles with depression and panic attacks - and persuading her family that mental health problems are a real illness. Jake, a barman from Brighton, has struggled with depression but wants to try running as a way to help cope with his illness. This episode follows them up to the point as they get ready for the challenge of running their first 10k race - an important milestone if they’re to make the starting line of the London Marathon 2017, which takes place a few days after transmission. #rundemcrew #rundem #mindovermarathon #bbc #chasinglights #mentalhealth #soundmindsoundbody

New York New York, so good they named it twice and I can definitely say that the marathon definitely lived up to its stella reputation. An adventure in crowd support with each of the five boroughs bringing its own version of the mighty #cheerdem spirit. Long energy sapping bridges that actually made me wish I'd run some hills in training and the longest avenues known to man with a four mile ending of rolling hills in Central Park. This is not a marathon for the feint hearted or the ill prepared but of all the marathons I've run over the last eight years this has been by far my favourite. Rocked through the first 13 in 1.45 and then the wheels came off around mile 18 and ran walked the rest to come home in 4.20. A long way off my PB but my best adventure over the 26.2 distance. Top highlight being the conversation with my man from @burt_btg about his impending fatherhood, random strangers shouting my name who recognised me from Instagram, the Bridge The Gap mural at mile 4, the cheer spot at mile 9 and @jessiezapo and her smiling face and the confetti shower to end all confetti showers at the mighty Mile 21 cheer spot. Add the tightest hugs from @misssanchialege and a final 5th avenue course break down from the legendary @mikesaes and you have one happy soul. A perfect end to my birthday week and a big piece of shiny bling to add to the collection. Big ups to the @novemberproject for the final stretch encouragement . To everyone who has ever liked or commented over the last year I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You can't have crew without the support of the people dem and I appreciate the energy from each and everyone of you. If still in doubt I say just do it. You all have a marathon inside you and the lessons you will learn over the distance will stay with you for life.
