Scene from the annual Food & Nutrition Conference expo hall Yogurt company rep: Would you like to try our yogurt? Me: Do you have any without added sugar? Rep: Yes our ____ line is sweetened with monk fruit! Me: That's interesting. Rep: Yep nothing added. Me: I thought you just said it was sweetened with monk fruit? Rep: I mean nothing artificial added. Me: Oh. So this sugar on the nutrition facts is just the lactose from the yogurt? Rep: Uh, yeah. Me: But here on the ingredient list it says evaporated cane syrup. Rep: Yep nothing artificial! Me: I thought you said it was no sugar added? Rep: Uh, it's low sugar. (End scene) So that is a company representative talking to a nutrition professional. How the hell are you guys supposed to get straight facts about the food you buy?
My response to today's announcement on the probable carcinogenicity of red meat will probably lead many to assume that I'm a big meat eater or a paid shill for the meat industry. In fact, I am neither. I actually think the world would be a better place (for both people and animals) if we ate less meat. But when I see headlines saying "Red meat is just as likely to give you cancer as a cigarette," I have to speak up. https://t.co/eLyyiiDBgY Link
