Today, the U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the 21st Century Cures (#CuresNow) bill, legislation that will help accelerate the development of new medicines for many disease, including brain tumors. NBTS applauds all those in the House who supported and voted to pass this critical piece of bipartisan legislation for the hundreds of thousands of Americans who are currently living with a brain tumor and their families, as the bill contains a number of provisions that can jumpstart the discovery and development cycle for new medicines, while also optimizing the FDA's approval process. We would like to especially thank Reps. Fred Upton (R-MI) and Diana DeGette (D-CO), the bills co-sponsors in the House, for their leadership and tireless work on this landmark medical innovation package, as well as the thousands of volunteer brain tumor advocates who have participated in NBTS Action Alerts and Hill visits to advocate for #CuresNow. Passage of The 21st Century Cures is a legislative a priority for NBTS, and we now ask the Senate to quickly follows suit - and are encouraged by the many indications it will.
MORE GOOD NEWS: The U.S. Senate just voted 94-5 to pass the 21st Century Cures Act! Since the bill already passed the U.S. House of Representatives, passing the Senate means it has cleared it's final congressional hurdle and now goes to President Obama's desk for him to sign into law - which he has indicated he quickly will. This means the most comprehensive package of medical research funding and innovations in decades will now be able to take effect. Thanks to all those who helped us take action and advocate for this policy! NBTS' s official statement/blog has more: Link
