The Refugee Crisis Isn’t a ‘European Problem’ nyti.ms/1hLhInP If you're sick of the excuses here's how Canada and US could act
Stephen Harper begins a new life after politics. Life's good after politics. I wish him well.
After three happy years at Harvard Kennedy School, I have accepted a new challenge: the Presidency and Rectorship of Central European University in Budapest. CEU is a unique institution: a world-class English-language graduate university in the heart of Budapest founded and endowed by George Soros twenty five years ago to promote the values of an open society: free hearts, free minds, free economies and free politics. I know CEU, have friends there and will take over on September 1 from Ambassador John Shattuck who did a terrific job. The challenges facing the university are obvious: defending open society from authoritarian and populist competitors around the world. CEU can respond by becoming a laboratory for re-imagining open society’s ideals for the 21st century. Leading this fascinating institution is an exciting opportunity. It’s full of committed teachers and inquiring minds from over a hundred countries and I look forward to living in Budapest. After all, this is where Zsuzsanna is from.
