Earlier this week, Maine Public Transmission Manager Jeff Mahaney was snowshoeing in to our tower site at Crow Hill when he came across a moose in distress. The moose had been tangled in some phone lines, and it appeared that he had been trapped for several days. As luck would have it, Jeff knows a wildlife biologist who was able to call-in a rescue team. The team was able to tranquilize the moose and free him from the wires. Thirteen minutes later, the moose got up and stumbled off into the woods. This all took place in 2 feet of snow and in the dark. Jeff wrote in his note to the Maine Public staff, "How fortunate am I? Sometimes we get a chance to do something good." We all feel fortunate that Jeff was in the right place at the right time and ready to spring into action to help this beautiful creature.
The crowd at the State House in Augusta was so large that Capitol Security couldn't provide an estimate of its size. At one point cars trying to get off Interstate 95 were backed up for more than a mile, delaying the start of the rally for about half an hour. Link
In an interview with Maine Public Radio, Sen. Angus King said he sat through Scott Pruitt's confirmation hearings yesterday as an audience member, did some additional research and came to the conclusion that the Oklahoma attorney general's anti-regulatory positions are to the point of "undermining the fundamental mission" of the Environmental Protection Agency. “L.L. Bean does not endorse political candidates, take positions on political matters or make political contributions. Simply put, we stay out of politics. To be included in this boycott campaign is simply misguided, and we respectfully request that Grab Your Wallet reverse its position,” says Shawn Gorman, the executive chairman of the L.L. Bean board of directors. Link
