I am thrilled and deeply honoured to have been awarded a Companion of the Order of Australia. Unfortunately I won't be celebrating at a BBQ today - my work with the Global Partnership for Education is taking me to Malawi, where we are working on improving the quality of school education for some of the least fortunate children in the world. I hope you all have a wonderful day with family and friends and take the time to reflect on the things that unite us as Australians. We have so much to be thankful for. JG
Congratulations to Malcolm Turnbull on becoming Prime Minister - a great honour and responsibility. JG
I honour Malcolm Fraser's service to our country as Prime Minister. Malcolm Fraser in and beyond politics was a leader in the fight for racial equality. His brave stance against the evil of South Africa's apartheid helped change the world for the better. Malcolm will always be remembered kindly for his commitment to multiculturalism and his specific actions to resettle Vietnamese boat people in Australia. Many will also recall with admiration his compassionate work internationally through his leadership post politics of CARE Australia and then CARE International. My condolences go to his family, friends and colleagues, especially his wife Tamie, who has touched the hearts of so many Australians. After such a long and loving marriage, her grief will be profound and all our thoughts are with her. With the loss of the great Gough Whitlam last year, the chapter in our nation's history that included the controversy of the dismissal has closed. However, our memories of that era encompass far more than the days of the constitutional crisis and today we remember all of Malcolm Fraser's life and works with respect. JG
Thanks @HillaryClinton for your courage.I'm still with her and her vision of inspiring girls by shattering that high, hard glass ceiling-JG
Wishing you all a happy International Women's Day 2015! It has been twenty years since the Beijing Declaration. Now is the time to recommit to delivering equality between men and women once and for all. We are #NotThere yet and the more we know, the faster we can advance. Visit not-there.org. My special focus this year will be on girls' education: 31 million girls are still denied the right to go to school. We must reverse this statistic and ensure that every girl, no matter where she lives, receives a great education - JG #IWD2015 #NoCeilings.
I am delighted and excited to take over the reins as beyondblue Chair later this year. Jeff Kennett has done an incredible job as beyondblue’s founder and chair – his advocacy has changed the landscape for mental health in Australia. Thank you to the beyondblue board for your trust in me and your support. I am very excited to lead this important and impactful organisation. JG
