Instagram Post
Friday February 10th is my last day working as an employee at ESPN. From the time I was 8 years old, I'd wake up, grab the sports section of the newspaper and study the box scores each morning. I dreamed of working in sports. I dreamed about being the next Howard Cosell. In high school, I played sports but even more, I watched sports. I watched Darryl Strawberry hit home runs at Shea Stadium. I watched Tony Dorsett shake off a defender, make a spin move, and take it 80 yards to the house. I watched the legend Larry Bird win 3 MVPs and give a kid like me someone to emulate on the basketball court. I love sports. Always have and always will. On July 18, 2000, I was able to live out every sports fan's dream by beginning my career at the worldwide leader in sports. I remember that first day at the office in Bristol, Connecticut. I was at the MECCA of sports. The home of the station I watched religiously for half my life. The home of SportsCenter. The home of Chris Berman, Dan Patrick, Bob Ley, Stuart Scott, Mike and Mike and so many others. I couldn't believe it. Here I was, a kid from small town Ravena, NY, working at the biggest sports brand in the world. Unreal. Working at ESPN has been amazing. I felt such a sense of pride being able to live out my dream. When you work with a company for 16+ years, you meet and develop relationships with some amazing people. These are people who have made an impact, not only on my career, but even more importantly, my life. I am eternally grateful for each and every person that I've met, worked with, traveled with and collaborated with at ESPN. You are all amazing talents and you're what makes ESPN the envy of every other sports media company. Two years ago, I began to see God opening doors in my life to do more for Him. He began to do a work in my heart and I couldn't ignore it. I've tried to pretend it wasn't there, but I can't ignore it any longer. Now, as I begin the 3rd quarter of my life, I want to tell a different story. A story of redemption, a story of hope and and a story of faith. The time has come to begin a new chapter.
