** The Truth About the Cost of Marketing Your Services ** If you are running your own business and promoting your services or products one thing you must understand is the value of each customer. You must know the answer to this question: "How much can you afford to pay to acquire a new client and still turn a profit?" Let me explain this. The other day I got an email from a man selling financial planning services. He complained that his business was slow and mentioned that he used to do evening seminars to attract new clients, but with the recession "he felt it became too expensive" so he stopped. On the surface it makes sense. And, sadly, that's how most people run their businesses and their marketing - they ignore good strategies because "they feel" the "cost is too high". The real problem is not the cost, but knowing how to track the most important numbers... Here's what I mean. In this man's case he looked at doing a seminar and said, "it costs a $1,000 to do it, so it's too expensive". What he should've looked at is this. For a $1,000 he was getting 10 people in the room and two became clients immediately and he made $2,000 per client - so he just quadrupled his money! Now, instead of ditching the strategy because of the up-front investment he should've really understood his numbers. And he should've asked himself these two questions: 1) how to I get 20 people in that room instead of just 10? and 2) How to I turn four out of 10 people into clients? Now the same investment of the $1,000 into doing an evening seminar could turn into $8,000 to $16,000 in new business. You see, promoting your business and getting clients isn't about learning Internet Marketing, or how to build a better squeeze page, or what email autoresponder system to use. It starts with knowing how to think like an entrepreneur, understanding how money is made in your business (or any business) and the discipline to test things and to create systems.
