Let me tell you a story about today... After a long weekend of sick kids and sick husband and no one buying a ticket for Summer Camp, I was totally exhausted, overwhelmed, and dejected this morning. I was feeling so crappy that I had a good long cry in the shower while Juliet coughed and fussed in her crib and Max sat outside the shower, alternately demanding more plates for his Lego cake slices and pitching a fit when I refused to get out of the shower. I called Ken in tears and my towel, just to have someone witness how I was feeling because it felt so miserable and lonely. And then I took a dose of my own medicine... I cleared my afternoon schedule, asked for extra help from Dee, threw sweats on all of us and headed to the park. When another Mama asked innocently, "And how is this sweet family" I probably shocked her by telling the truth. When my nanny arrived, I helped her get the kids down, ate leftover stir fry, and headed to the foot massage place instead of working. And instead of stressing out about how much I was supposed to be doing and how tired I was and how hard I need to be pushing right now, I let some stranger rub my feet while I drank green tea. And I talked to myself on the drive home in my sweetest soothing Mama voice -- saying things like, "it's okay sweet girl" and "we will get through this phase" and "the perfect campers will find their way to camp" and "you're totally allowed to have a rough day, just love and trust the process." And now I'm back at my desk, with the sole goal of going through my mail. Everything else can wait for tomorrow, because I need to be slow and gentle and easy with myself today. I'm going to snuggle my babies after this, eat breakfast for dinner and watch an episode of Scandal with Ken before crashing early. And tomorrow? Tomorrow I'll begin again. That's what feeling my feelings, being crazy kind to myself and trusting it will all work out looks like for me, today.
