Want to know what melted a GR staffer's heart today? Seeing a young girl walking out of Dymocks George St with her nose in book - literally! She was so excited about the book that her Aunty just bought her she couldn't wait to get it home and started reading it as she was walking along the street. (She was pretty good at dodging pedestrians too!) What a lovely sight to see during a celebration of books and reading :)
The 1975 have pulled a fan on stage and she cant believe it!
Congratulations Alison Lester and Boori Monty Pryor for being honoured today as the first ever Australian Children's Laureates. The two incredibly talented children's authors will share the inaugural appointment for 2012 and 2013. During this time they will act as national and international ambassadors for Australian children's literature, as well as travel to every corner of the country inspiring kids to share and write their own stories. They were officially announced at today's launch in Adelaide by much-loved actress and children's advocate Noni Hazlehurst, and the Minister for Education and Child Development, Grace Portolesi.
