Some people get so irritated when a woman proudly boasts that she had a natural birth. But why? It's no different than a marathon runner being proud of finishing a race. I have no interest in running a marathon but I don't begrudge the folks who gain a fulfilling sense of pride for that accomplishment. I'm happy for them! And it doesn't make me feel the slightest bit bad that I'll never run a marathon. It's not my bag. If natural childbirth isn't your bag or it's not in the cards for you, that's okay! But there's no reason to drag down a woman who feels great about her accomplishment. She didn't do it to slight you any more than the runner who hits the pavement at 5 am while you're still cozy in bed. I had a natural birth for ME and my baby. It's not for everyone, but neither is running the New York marathon, yet I'll still cheer those folks on. Congratulations to everyone who climbs the mountain to accomplish their goals! Nobody can take that success away from you.
My 7 Year Old: "When I grow up, I'm going to have 3 dogs if I strike it rich. But I'll only have one dog if I'm broke like you." Water came out my nose.
Two thoughts tonight: 1. I'm SO proud of Illinois and Gov. Quinn tonight for finally legalizing gay marriage. 2. I'm SO disgusted by the people using their religious intolerance to protest this wonderful leap forward. That is NOT what Jesus would do. Jesus thinks you're being a dick. STOP. IT.
I smoked for about 13 years and quit when I got pregnant 8 years ago. The smell disgusts me so much now that I can't believe I ever did that, or that people still do. Dear Smokers: you smell like burnt shit. SorryNotSorry. And mouthwash doesn't help. That smell stays in your hair and your clothes and it wafts into the room with you, gagging everyone else. That residual smell is dangerous for babies and kids. And watching a parent die a slow and painful death from emphysema is something no child should be saddled with. (I know from experience.) You've gotta stop it. There's help out there to quit.
Overheard my 7 yr old telling my 5 yr old, "Christopher Columbus was a murderer." That sure beats the "He's a hero who discovered 'Murica" bullshit I was fed in the 80's! Seems the schools have finally updated their textbooks to reflect reality. :)
