Next Thursday, Chief Curator Grahame Long and Assistant Curator Neil Nohrden will be leading an Exclusive Furniture Tour at The Heyward-Washington House at 5:30 pm. Participants will go behind the ropes for an up-close study of these significant English and Charleston-made pieces and learn about their construction, various styles, materials, makers, and the market during which they were built and distributed. Hear about acclaimed local cabinet-makers, including Thomas Elfe, Robert Walker, and Martin Pfeninger who is responsible for making the priceless Holmes-Edwards Library Bookcase, considered one of the finest examples of American-made colonial furniture.
