The Force is with us tonight! Happy Nighttime at the Museum!
Did you know that we're America's First Museum?! The Charleston Museum was founded on January 12, 1773. Today is our 244th birthday and we're feeling pretty good!
Since we're all obsessing over #snow in #Charleston, here are a few c. 1899 snow photos for you bit.ly/UAEPl2 #chswx
Next Thursday, Chief Curator Grahame Long and Assistant Curator Neil Nohrden will be leading an Exclusive Furniture Tour at The Heyward-Washington House at 5:30 pm. Participants will go behind the ropes for an up-close study of these significant English and Charleston-made pieces and learn about their construction, various styles, materials, makers, and the market during which they were built and distributed. Hear about acclaimed local cabinet-makers, including Thomas Elfe, Robert Walker, and Martin Pfeninger who is responsible for making the priceless Holmes-Edwards Library Bookcase, considered one of the finest examples of American-made colonial furniture.
