As America prepares to choose new leaders, a prayer for our common life together:
"Gracious God: Bless us, the citizens of this nation that we, in times of conflict, engage one another without hatred or bitterness, that we listen for your voice amid competing claims, and that we work together with mutual forbearance and respect.
"Where hearts are fearful and constricted, grant courage and hope. Where anxiety is infectious and widening, grant peace and reassurance. Where impossibilities close every door and window, grant imagination and resistance. Where distrust twists our thinking, grant healing and illumination.
"All these things we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen."
On this, the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, please join us in prayer for the lost, the nation and the world, beginning with this prayer offered today during the Cathedral's interfaith service of prayer and remembrance.
You can add your own prayers at cathedral.org/9-11.
The mourning bell of @WNCathedral will toll 9 times at 9 p.m. tonight, once for each victim of #CharlestonShooting bit.ly/1SsFlPe
