Today I joined Representative John Lewis and members of the House of Representatives on the House floor calling for votes to block terrorists from buying guns and to establish background checks like we have in Colorado that help keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Despite tragedies in Colorado and across the country, Congress remains paralyzed. #NoBillNoBreak
41 days have passed since Chief Judge Merrick Garland was nominated to serve on the Supreme Court. And the Senate is no closer to considering the nomination. There is no excuse for not holding a hearing and a vote. The plain language of the Constitution -- if that’s what we’re going to pay attention to in this chamber, if that’s what we’re going to argue for -- is clear: Article II, Section 2, Clause 2 sets out our constitutional responsibility to advise and consent. #DoYourJob

Today’s Supreme Court ruling in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt strengthens a woman’s constitutional right to make their own health care decisions and affirmed that politicians can’t block a woman’s access to her care. There’s no place in our laws for these types of backdoor government restrictions on what decisions women can make about their health care. Women should be empowered to make their own choices based on what they believe is best for them and their family.
