"I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying.” — Michael Jordan, who is clearly not a Chinese mother.
Sorry, Earth! The World Cup is ignored by USA because it's soccer. But mostly because it is a world championship that involves the world.
One time, on a flight on a flight between Honolulu and Kahului, I sat next to Prince. Well, it was me, then Prince's bodyguard, then Prince. But I was that close. Every time I leaned forward and turned my head to see the music legend, his mountain of a security contractor glared at me and, almost imperceptibly, slowly shook his head, as if to say, "DO NOT LOOK AT THE PRINCE." When the plane landed I got the chance to stand close to him. He was a little taller than me, which made me sad as I had heard about how short he was. But then I looked down and saw that he was standing on heels that were as thick as a couple of encyclopedia volumes. (Youngsters, ask your parents what those were.) I loved telling people the story of how I sat next to Prince. The inevitable response was, "What was Prince doing in coach?" Uh, hello? I was in first class. Geez. He was a true artist and visionary. His music was largely the soundtrack of my younger self. And one time, he even punched Sinead O'Connor because she told him to fuck off. Nothing Compares 2 U, Prince.
