The north side of Kelleys Island offers an ancient wonder: Glacial Grooves Geological Preserve. Containing marine fossils aged more than 350 million years, the preserve is made out of Devonian limestone, named after the Devonian period beginning 416 million years ago. The Kelleys Island glacial grooves are the largest easily accessible grooves in the world, measuring 400 feet long, 35 feet wide, and up to 10 feet deep! Known in part for its fabulous canoeing and kayaking opportunities, Mohican State Park is a place for the water adventurists, peace seekers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. However, some less well known, but just as exciting, activities include multiple miles of fantastic hiking and mountain biking trails, fishing, swimming, and camping.
