While driving home from a day shift last week Crew Manager Graham Oliphant from Peckham fire station witnessed a collision between a motorcyclist and van which saw the motorcyclist thrown from his bike.
His Brigade training kicking in, Graham secured the scene and began to provide first aid to the casualty while comforting and reassuring him. Faced with a large crowd of on-lookers he calmed the situation and nominated by-standers to assist with gathering witness statements so he could give as much information as possible to the emergency services when they arrived.
A few days later Graham received an email from the motorcyclist thanking him for taking care of him. We think Graham’s actions are a credit to the Brigade and demonstrate that the skills of our firefighters extend beyond their working shifts and are an asset to the communities they serve.
