5 years ago @BrianActon interviewed for a job at Facebook. He didn't get it. Today he sold his company WhatsApp to Facebook for $19 billion.
After speaking to several investment firms over the past two months and much deliberation I have decided not to return to the wealth management industry. Having to rebuild a clientele from scratch while living in Wilmington, NC just doesn't make sense for me right now. Maybe someday I'll start my own investment firm but until then I have no desire to work for another company. Every firm I spoke with would attempt to limit my outside business activities (as they call it) which means they'd suck the entrepreneurial blood right out of me. That's something I won't allow. So here's what I'll be doing with my life and my career: I'm going to refocus my time, energy and resources into my media company (Lupton Media Group) and my consulting company (InterCapital Group). When I left the investment industry three years ago I started these two companies and things were going fantastic but then I started launching my own internet startups and became very distracted. In addition to growing both companies I'll also relaunching my supplement company Nutraspire (in the process of finding a new manufacturer), my online nutrition superstore Strivved.com, my online social fundraising company Cauzly.com and finishing the web development for Plexce.com - I'm also working on a new mobile app idea. I've also decided to restart my weekly podcast called StartupSense where I interview successful startup founders and investors. I'll have it up and running again within the next two weeks. Last but not least, in the next 12-18 months I'll be starting a $5-10 million investment fund, not sure yet if we'll be investing in high growth startups or investing in broken companies and helping to turn them around (similar to the new show on CNBC called The Profit). Well that pretty much sums everything up. I'm excited to get some of my companies up and running again as well as helping other entrepreneurs start/grow their companies. If you need any web development services or business advisory services you know where to find me. Let's do this!!! Link
