Wedding time in London!!
Time to get dressed up!! #chrisandannathomsenwedding #chrisandanna2016
Most of you know that I'm a big fan of keeping it real. Telling it how it is. Being honest and transparent. I'm not sure how I got here but I have found myself as a role model for many thousands of people in the health and wellness space. Everyone knows that I'm not perfect. I'm not super fit nor am I super lean. But I am off all my medications and very rarely do I get sick! I can count the number of times in 9 years on one hand.
I do my best. And for 80% of the time I'm on game and 20% of the time I'm more relaxed and not so focused!
It works for me and I've never been more happy!
So in the spirit of sharing my ups and my downs here's a pic of me this morning being hospitalized in Barcelona!
Here's what happened...
For the last 2 weeks I've been in and out of hot weather and AC. In the hotels and villas I've stayed in the AC tends to blast down on the bed and the choice is either a fridge or a sauna to sleep in.
All this change in temperature extremes brought on a chest wheeze. I could here it on my exhale when I lay in bed at night. It wasn't too uncomfortable but I knew it wasn't good. Anyway it was fairly constant for a week and then last night I had room service and I ordered a green salad with grilled shrimp for dinner. The dressing was olive oil and the hotel was quite generous in their drenching of the salad. For some unknown reason I accidentally inhaled some of the olive oil and it must of set off a reaction with an already brewing bronchitis! At first I just coughed a lot. Then it settled down and I even did a one hour conference call for work. But by the time my call was done I was having trouble breathing! When I laid down it was worse. It was a lot worse. This is about 3am now. I had to sit up. I tried to sleep sitting up thinking that in a few hours things would settle down but they didn't. Finally I bit the bullet and called the hotel operator and asked for a doctor to come to my room. He turned up around 4 hours later as the alternative of taking a ambulance seemed a little too dramatic. The doc said I needed to get to an ER ASAP for chest X-RAY and some blood tests to rule out some fairly serious possibilities! I packed my bags, checked out and hightailed in a cab to the local hospital! To cut an already log story short the doc run a huge number of tests and the results all confirmed that I had a severe case of bronchitis! An IV drip with some cortisol and breathing in the same medics that is given to asthmatics and 2 hours later I was on a plane heading to Oslo for a connecting flight. My blood pressure was normal, all my blood tests were normal and my chest X-RAY didn't turn up anything to worry about! The doc said I had the health of a 30 year old!! I'll take that!
Now for the first time in 9 years I'm on a dose of steroids for 6 days. 5 days to go. It's been quite a vacation from lost bags to hospital visits. All part of the package is what I say. To have the great highs in life, we have to experience the lows.
I'm feeling so much better tonight and I'm looking forward to a decent nights sleep!
My Final thought is to reiterate my belief to you that western and eastern medicine can and should live side by side. Without those drugs today who knows where I would be! But at the same time, my good health kept me from going over the edge.
Balance! There that word again!
Goodnight from Riga, Latvia.
This was me yesterday!
Day 9 of my current Reboot!
At this moment in time, with rain pouring down, freezing cold, completely bored of green juice and standing in the middle of NYC, I wanted to give up!
I wanted to stop!
I wanted to hit the local Vegan place and smash some veggie soup! Demolish a salad layered with avocado and sweet potato! I could have murdered some roasted beets and carrots!!
But I didn't!
I hung in there! Why?
Because it simply wasn't time! I wasn't hungry! I was bored!
I was feeling like I was missing out!
I was able to be mindful enough to recognize this and persevere!
Today is day 10 and I feel amazing!
A 2 mile walk in the sunshine, with 4 layers of clothes, and an afternoon of watching golf.
Already looking forward to Day 11.
