I'd pay good money to hear a recording of Kanye's Grammy performance, sans auto-tune.
Every once in a while, I am so overcome with gratitude that I just need to express it…to whomever might be interested in listening. I feel so incredibly lucky for having a job that I truly love, in all of it’s various forms. My energy and attention so far this year has been distributed across a handful of different projects and all have been extremely rewarding. It’s almost impossible for me to believe, that without a record label or publicist, all four of the ticketed headline shows that I’ve played in 2016 have been sold out. I can hardly believe it. I was hesitant to mention this for fear of sounding braggadocios but I really need you all to know just how very much I appreciate your support. I work so hard to be sure that my songs are honest, my recordings are authentic and that the shows are entertaining. To witness folks incorporating my music into their lives and finding resonance in it, means EVERYTHING to me. There’s so much music out there in the world these days…so much content and so much clutter. More than ever, I think that there is pressure on artists to deliver access to their lives and behind the scenes, that the music, in some cases becomes almost secondary. As much as I enjoy posting pictures that illustrate my perspective of the world around me and sharing stuff that I think is inspiring, hilarious or even, at times upsetting, the absolute most important component of OUR relationship is the music…by a long shot. The one thing that I care most about is making records that stand the test of time and playing those songs for you in a way that will stick with you. Maybe it goes without saying, but I don’t care. I’m saying it anyway. So - again, thank you. Thanks for listening even though I kind of suck at social media. Thanks for paying attention to what really counts. I can’t wait to sing for you sometime soon. until then. j
