Really diggin the new track from my boy @adamlambert. His best yet. Ck it.
I wasn't going to share this story as I hate a "humble brag" as much as the next guy and did not want to come off that way in the least. But after wifey posted it on her page and I saw how much people were INSPIRED to do the same and think differently going forward, I figured...let's start a chain reaction. Here's how our day in Chicago started yesterday...
9 AM. Cold. It's that moment when you see a shivering 16-yr-old boy on the streets in ripped and tattered clothes, not asking for money, but simply for food as people casually stroll by trying to pretend not to notice. ????
I honestly don't typically do this but I felt lead to bend down, to talk to him, ask him if he was cold (only wearing a couple T's in the cold of Chicago) which then lead to Aleena Beckham and I walking him to the corner store to fill up a grocery basket with whatever he needed. Just a good kid...from the south side of Chicago. (Heavily poor and violent place) he takes a 45 min train into the city sometimes to ask for anything to eat. Mom lost her job...has nothing to eat and begging without his families knowledge. He then told me if he ever brings home any food, he tells his mom he earned it helping people carry groceries to save face. ???? I said "let's go get some food right now." Helped him up and we began to walk.
As instructed, he packed the basket as full as he could while we chatted about life, his favorite healthy foods, and though people did stare at us, we didn't care. Acted just like a couple ol' buddies picking up some good food.
As we were waiting together to pay, I noticed there was a crinkled up $100 bill deep in my pocket I'd been meaning to deposit and God just said it to me..."Give it to him." At the counter I subtly handed him the bill and said "You pay with you own money..." The look on his face was nothing I expected. Pure disbelief. Shock that someone might TRUST him enough to do the right thing with more than some spare change in a cup. I'm not rich. It was a sacrifice but I didn't think twice. I knew it would mean SO much more to him than me. God has blessed me so I acted. I told him I'd wait for him outside and shuffled out the door as I held back tears of my own. ????
When he emerged he had full grocery bags and full tears in his eyes hugging us both. We were filled with joy for him.
Bonus blessing! ???????? While Aleena and baby were waiting outside, a taxi driver saw me taking the kid inside for food, stopped, literally got out of his car and gave Aleena the coat right off of his back to give to him. None of us could believe it...???? Beautiful beautiful people.
We told him to stay on the right track. Get back in school. Have faith. Stay away from drugs. No alcohol. He agreed with me 100%. Told him our names and he headed to the train. His name was Denzel.
For the rest of our day we were NOTHING but blessed with friendly strangers, awesome interactions, laughter and kindness everywhere we went. Pass it on guys..you won't regret it. ????????
And little Beckham (10 mon.) looked on. Just as I learned from my Dad, nana, mom. and step dad Steve.
There IS still good in this crazy world. Be an example for small eyes when you can! #shineyourlight #PayItForward #thefuturegenerationiswatching ????
I ❤️ you all.
