The history of the Library of Parliament is quite remarkable. Built in the late 1800s, it has survived two fires: one that completely destroyed the Centre Block of Parliament in 1916 and another one that broke out in the cupola of the Library in 1952. This stunning room, now 140 years old, is always a highlight of the tour of the Parliament.
