When I leave FL at the end of the month, moving to CA, I will be donating this sewing machine to The Moffitt Cancer Center as my parting gift. This machine has sewn over 200,000 Bracelets since January 2013 - Nick III
Background on the sewing machine:
In January 2013, Nick was interviewed by Tampa's FOX13 News after he donated $10,300.00 to The Sandy Hook Relief Fund for the families of the murdered children of Sandy Hook Elementary School, to use for funeral purposes, donated solely from The Sandy Hook Bracelet sales. After the news coverage was aired, not Tampawide, but nationwide, a gentleman from the city of Wesley Chapel, contacted Nick, asking if he could donate something for him to use. Nick drove from Tampa to Wesley Chapel and met the gentleman at a Starbucks. When Nick approached the elderly man, the man said to Nick, "I have something for you in my car. I can't use and I don't know how to use it, but, if you want it, it's yours." Nick followed the gentleman to his car. He opened his trunk and revealed an opened sewing machine box, fairly new from what Nick saw. Nick asked him, "sir, you really want to donate this machine to me?" The gentleman looked into Nick's eyes and began crying. He then said to Nick, "This machine belonged to my wife who passed away recently from breast cancer, 31 years of marriage. We had being treated at The Moffitt Cancer Center and during her last months of living, she asked me to find her a sewing machine, because she wanted to learn how to sew. When I came to her room with the sewing machine, I opened the box before opening her room. There, as I opened the door, she was surrounded by the doctors. She died in front of me. This dent on this box is from me dropping the machine on the floor, so, I apologize if it's broken. She never got to see this machine used by her beautiful hands. The Moffitt Cancer has done so much for her, my family and I thank the doctors and staff for taking care of us. This machine now bears bad memories to me and cannot use this. Please take this sewing machine and make use of it." Nick took the machine and gave the gentleman a hug. Nick then said, "I promise to make good use of this."
Honor them - Nick III
