Congratulations to this week’s workout warrior, Shannon. Shannon is a member of Anytime Fitness Glenelg.
In 2001, a tragic work accident resulted in Shannon losing his left arm from the elbow. At 19 years old, this had a huge impact on Shannon’s lifestyle and confidence which led to several years of alcohol and drug abuse. Through the guidance of counselling, Shannon set out to establish a new lifestyle which helped him get back into the work force and find confidence. Settling back into a routine, Shannon set his eyes upon the gym in order to re-gain complete confidence and well-being.Given the nature of Shannon’s injury, there were limitations as to what he could and couldn’t do. He started to base his routine around what he saw other people do around the gym. Some of his greatest inspiration came from seeing other amputees that had managed to achieve a high level health and fitness.
Shannon has now been with Anytime Fitness for over a year and we continue to be inspired by his motivation and how he manages to improvise in order to have a fulfilling workout. It goes to show that whatever our fitness level or if there are certain things that limit the way we can workout, most of the time if there is a will there is a way.
Congratulations Shannon, you have made some excellent health and wellbeing progress with us and we look forward to seeing you continue on your fitness journey!
Congratulations to Michelle Mitchell who has won 1st place in the female category for our national 8 Week Healthy Life Challenge!
Read Michelle's story below;
I was tired, overweight and not comfortable with my own body. I started at the gym, clueless of what to do and where to start. I met with a PT, Molly, who helped and encouraged me to join the 8 Week Healthy Life Challenge which she thought would benefit me and my health. Not only has this challenge helped me improve my health and fitness, it's taught me how to eat healthy and has boosted my confidence. I have also been lucky enough to meet amazing people who were a part of the challenge, who helped encourage me on my weight-loss journey. On top of my already wonderful support team, my amazing family were always my biggest cheer squad.
When I first started this challenge, I could barely run 5 minutes on the treadmill. I set a goal each week to increase my run time, I now can run 40 minutes. I have so much more confidence in myself than when I began and have added 13.1 Healthy Life Years, lost 8 kilograms, which was my goal, and lost an overall of 56.5cm across my body. I now have a Healthy Life Age of 31. I am 41 years old. Congratulations, Michelle what a transformation!
As part of Michelle's prize she will be heading to Bali with health and nutrition expert, Shannan Ponton with flight courtesy of Jetstar Australia!
